Current Disposition: Balcony solar bill pending
Massachusetts House Bill H.5175, an energy affordability and clean power omnibus bill, includes a proposed portable solar generation device exemption from interconnection and net-metering requirements. The House engrossed the bill on February 26, 2026, with a 1,200-watt device limit. The Senate passed its own amendment (S.3166) on July 1, 2026; its text sets no watt limit for eligible systems. The House did not concur on July 16, 2026, and a conference committee was appointed. The portable-solar provisions are not law.
